Day 10: Making the Grooves Deeper
Commenters on Day 9 were suggesting that my two weeks was short and that the real challenge is to incorporate these types of changes as a lifestyle.

I won't try to recreate 4th grade for you too much, but, DUH! Of course this is supposed to be a lifestyle. Read comments I made on the last blog:

The thing is that have been trying to eat healthy and control portions for months now and I haven't been able to do it.

Bode knows from college that when I actually sit down to get something done I can be tenacious and hard-working for a short duration. I decided to apply the same principle to eating and running (the two things I can't normally convince myself to do).

My hope is that two full weeks of intensity will wear off on my every day life.

So that is the plan behind the scenes...the real motivation for these 14 days. I'm back down to 184 pounds, so it's a net loss of a pound since the beginnning of this journey. I ran on the elliptical for an hour last night (7.05 miles, 1028 calories, maintaining a 170 to 180 heart rate for that hour). I'm nearing the end, and I really can't wait to celebrate with Chipotle for lunch and a beer or two with some friends once I reach the finish line.

Comments:
I'm telling your boss you're drinking beer at chipotle on your lunch hour.

I am sure his boss it doing the same thing!

I know I would be if I was Jason's boss.

isn't that the body for life motto, that u get one free day? so if the beer and chipolte gets u through, i say great! and then embark on another week with a beer and chipolte reward day at the end! maybe you'll just keeep going....

Drink the beer! Eat the Chipotle! Drink the beer! Eat the Chipotle!

If anyone is going to grow a 'stache it should be a handle-bar stache.

Being bossless or semi bossless has its plusses. I've been contracting for Harley since February 28th and I'm scheduled to be here through the end of 2006. Almost 2 full years. I kind of sort of have a manager here, but I'm just not responsible to him in the same way that full time employees are. And yet there's this higher responsibility as a contractor that you have to satisfy your client, your customer. And that includes every employee of your customer, not just your manager. Plus, you're not only representing your contracting company, but you're representing your account manager. In my case, I've followed my account manager from one contracting company to another. When you're contracting (not consulting, there's a difference) the company doesn't mean squat. It's the guy that gets you the contracts that matters...

Ultimately, there is a sense of relief and freedom though. In the IT world, if you're a full time employee, so what? They can cut you loose without a moment's notice. Finding your next job may prove to be tough and slow. Being a contractor means there are way more opportunities out there, you can be more picky, and you're likely to be working again sooner than someone who wasn't a contractor and is laid off.

yep. pros and cons. in my case the $$/hour outweighs the added premiums and copays for insurance.

the looking for a new contract can be exciting and keep you fresh on skills if that's your perspective.

Not getting paid for holidays or sick days or vacation can suck, but the paid overtime is cool. no 401(k) matching sucks, but over the last 5 years many places haven't had 401(k) matching. It's been coming back.

While there's things I don't like about 401(k)s, namely, that someone else chooses what funds you can invest in, free money is free money. 4TechWork has a 401(k) but no match. I'm not enrolled as it's more under my control to just contribute to my IRA.

Married 4+ years. No kids.

When I have kids I'm going to have to seriously consider what I will be doing because the health insurance cost + copays gets ridiculous.

What's 4TechWork's +kids premiums like? Any idea? I currently pay $409/mo for medical bennies for Jess & I. When she starts her new job (Oct/Nov likely) we'll hop on her bennies.

Oh, and I can't believe I missed a chance to comment on the this blentry's title. We should make a short film titled "How BoBo Got His Groove Back"

I think benny's are over/around $1000/month for a family

"What the heck are you even talking about?" That's INSANE! GOSH!

Dave are you the guy who gave me "how to find a date" tips a couple of months ago on jason's website?

Not that I know of. By Jason's website, do you mean his blog, his website, or his myspace? I only visit his blog.

Anyway, I think Sammon's desire to have Jason grow a 'stache is all a big evil plot so Sammon can throw his "Moustache and turtleneck - guys and curls, pearls and cleavage- girls" theme party previously mentioned here at BoboJBlog.

Remember Kevin's big brother from Home Alone, that's what Sammon's picture reminds me of.

Now, as for the drinking, Jason is not one to drink himself into some state of semi-conscious micturation or anything...lol. It's not like he would be so foolish as to do that at work, it would be like moving couches and dishes to pee on a wall when a bathroom is conveniently located near by.
