  Keys
I've been busy today with work, so I haven't gotten to this until now: We have our keys!!

That's really all I have to say, but it's huge to us. Oh, but I do have a cool tidbit. The locks/keys we have on the house are really cool. Stop and wonder about this: What happens when you get a new house? Do the contractors change the locks? Do they give you all of their keys? How do you know if you got all of them? Maybe one of the contractors "lost" a key and now he'll break into your new house...

Our locks/keys take care of that. The contractors have a set of keys which I will call the "contractor keys". Those work great on the locks. Then there are the keys Kelly and I were given yesterday, which I will call the "owner keys". These also work great on the locks. Now I get to the cool part. As soon as I use an "owner key" on a lock it switches a tumbler in the locking mechanism which permanently disables the contractors keys. Now that is some cool technology.

That's cool. New construction aside, think of all the people that buy houses and DON'T change the locks. That's literally the first thing I did. Which is kind of scary, because we had to pick out a style and finish that would go with our at-the-time-not-yet-determined decor before we tore the house apart.

Speaking of, Dave, when was the last time you updated your house blog? It's been months (and lots has been happening). I mean, you move in on the same day I'm moving in.

I could not help reading your post and thinking of Extreme Home Makeover, we have the keys! Let's move some furniture! Looking forward to a Mountain Dew and donut breakfast on Saturday.

Wow that is cool.

How do you know that this "technology" is real?? Maybe it is just a story they are telling you..hmmm ever think about that??? And maybe they made copies of the "owner" keys!!!

See you saturday=)

The science behind keys is really pretty simple. You can make a copy of someone's key without actually possessing their key. You just need the make and the 'gauge', a number system from 0 to 5 or 0 to 6 that represents the valleys and the mountains when you look at the key.

You COULD possibly gauge a key visually, but you'd have to know your stuff. Easier yet is using a little tool that slides over the key and allows you to read what the gauge for each position is.

Also, for slightly-out-of-date pictures of what's been going on at our house, go to http://spaces.msn.com/derecskey

There are two albums. If a picture is worth a thousand words, 70 pictures are worth 70,000 words. Eat that, blogosphere!

I offered to help both Jason and Dave move, but backed out on both of them.

I RULE!

I beat Jason to his own blog, muahahaha.

Ok, sorry, I'm just grateful to have a working phone and internet connectoin. I had to fight with the phone co to get a NID installed on Friday, then I had to proceed to wire the entire house just so I could have a phone and DSL. Yeah, we had nothing. Not even a line coming in from the outside.

No cable yet. Screwdelphia wants us to possibly pay $200 just so they can run a line to the house. Bullcrap. Give me $200 worth of free service and we've got a deal.

That really is cool!!!

Congrats on getting the "owner keys"... Enjoy!!

Your site is on top of my favourites - Great work I like it.
