Best Movies You Don't Know Much About
Chances are many of you will know a lot of these movies, but not all/many of these movies were huge box office smashes. Some of these are cult-classics, others not so much. Feel free to leave comments with more of your own picks that fit into this category of great, but not well-known.

I almost picked The Machinist and a slew of others...but just because some people loved the movie doesn't mean that I liked it (I thought The Machinist was boring). I have plenty of other movies that I consider great, but they are maybe too well known for the list (Fight Club, 12 Monkeys, ... well - I won't get into it). Some of the above picks were probably too popular to put on a list of movies you've never heard of. The thing that will get me mad is that I've probably forgotten about 30 great movies that you don't hear much about.

Where does the term "cult classic" come from?? I had neverheard of that term until the other day. Just curious!

Cult classic: Works that may not achieve widespread mainstream popularity but does attract devoted, even fanactical, attention from a select group.

By the way, I didn't include my favorite funny movie, Office Space (yes, even beating Napoleon Dynamite), because I thought it was too popular. Then again, it did pretty bad at the box office.

Jason I am so proud of myself I finally sat down and figured out how to put in my own links on my blog!! I feel like I accomplished something today! My husband will be so proud of me! Hey maybe you can get me a job=)

Donna I am soooo proud of you! Can you teach me? Oh man...why can I not think of great movies? I know that I have seen them all...that Blockbuster pass is so terribly addicting. I just signed up again even though I'm currently experiencing the busiest season of my life. Oh, well, 4 hours a sleep will just have to do. :) Maybe I'll just quit my job and be a bum. Oh, yeah it has been 6 months. I have a history of doing that. No, I've been shopping too much lately, I guess I'll try to keep my job.

I will teach you Kelly!!

Well everyone knows what movie I'll say...

The Notebook!!! It wasn't talked about a whole lot while it was in theaters, but the people who did go see it LOVED it...and are still obsessing over it. Now I've begun a Nicholas Sparks novel-reading frenzy since he seems to write such incredible love stories. I'm a die hard romantic.

ya, everyone knows mine too, but truly i don't think first knight made it big etiher. did it get any publicity at all? its so phenomenal in so many ways (mostly romantic) - i've seen that movie about as many times as i've seen what about bob. and thats a lot.

You know, I have yet to make it though Lost In Translation. Both times I tried watching it I was so tired I didn't make it past the first 10 minutes of the movie. The Notebook is probably one of the best romantic movies to come out in a few years, so I also agree that it is deserving of praise. I had so many people recommending it to me that somehow I allowed that to mean "successful" to me. I suppose it didn't gain that much attention at the movies when it was new.

Reservoir Dogs, Clerks, Swingers are all pretty big now (and I should not have included them like I didn't include Napoleon Dynamite - because they are way too big now). I won't give you Army of Darkness, though. I know all kinds of people that have never even heard of the movie.

As for your list: I HATE the Rocky Horror Picture Show. If I even slightly liked it I would have to do the obligitory include on my list, but man that movie irks me. Anyway, you got me with The Big Lebowski, I should have included that. I also considered Best In Show, Dazed and Confused, and Tron...but in the end I left them off because they didn't make some unidentifyable inner cut-off for me.
